Keep your content fresh

Why keep your content updated? Because doing this regularly shows your customers that your business is evolving, innovative and interesting. Perhaps the most important point is that if you do not update your content then why would a visitor come back? Fresh content means more visitors, simple as that!

How often will you update your content?

The best place to start is 'how often will you update your website?' To understand this you need to ask yourself:
  • Do you offer special offers online (e.g. Christmas offers, monthly offers, etc)?
  • Do you compete on price? If you do then you must keep prices current.
  • Do you promote new products to your customers? If so then perhaps a 'featured product' of 'new product' section is a good option for your website.
  • Do you offer your customers packages and if so how often do these change?
  • Will your customers benefit from written articles, a blog or news list?

Who, What and When?

Armed with the details to the above, then we move on to consider the following:
  • Timing - will updates occur daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly?
  • Pages - will all pages need to be updated, or just a select few (i.e. special offers, new, homepage, etc)?
  • Responsibility -who will be responsible for making the changes, and who will provide and/or write the content?
  • Images - will images need to be updated as well? Who will provide the images, will you need a photographer or can your suppliers provide them to you?
  • Video/Audio - will your website display any audio or video content and if so who will provide these to you? You will also need to ensure that the files provided are compatible with your website.
  • Style - will every page follow the same design template or will different sections require different templates?

Create a plan and stick to it

Once you have collected the details above you then need to create a plan based on the update frequency, pages to be updated, timeframes and deadlines as well as who is responsible. A plan is worthless if it is not followed, so the most important point in this article is follow your plan.
